Tridium is the global leader in open platforms, application software frameworks, automation infrastructure technology, energy management and device-to-enterprise integration solutions. Our technology and applications have fundamentally changed the way devices and systems connect, integrate and interoperate with each other and the enterprise.
The Niagara Framework® is a software platform that integrates diverse systems and devices regardless of manufacturer, or communication protocol into a unified platform that can be easily managed and controlled in real time over the Internet using a standard web browser. NiagaraAX resolves the challenges associated with open systems, integration and interoperability by integrating diverse systems and devices - regardless of manufacturer, or communication protocol - into a unified platform that is easily managed and controlled over the Internet. A scalable solution, NiagaraAX increases the functionality and value of “smart devices and systems” by connecting real time operational data to the people and systems that manage business enterprises.
NiagaraAX creates a common environment that connects to almost any embedded device imaginable. It models the data and behavior of the devices into normalized software components, providing a seamless, uniform view of device data to the enterprise via a wide variety of IP-based protocols, XML-based connectivity options, and open API’s. By transforming the data from diverse external systems into normalized components, NiagaraAX creates an architecture that provides substantial benefits over gateway-based integration.
Why BACnet ?
BACnet is the term commonly used to refer to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 135-2008, "BACnet: A Data Communication Protocol for Building Automation and Control networks." BACnet was approved and supported by the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and adopted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). BACnet is a true, non-proprietary, open and standard communications protocol developed and maintained by a consortium of building management, system users and manufacturers.
The BACnet protocol is comprehensive in scope and complex in detail. Built upon an international standards base, it has undergone extensive revisions to accommodate solicited and unsolicited structural ideas from all sectors of our industry. As intricate as it is, however, BACnet's design readily permits future modifications by ASHRAE as building automation requirements change—for example, to adhere to new energy use legislation, meet LEED requirements, or to work with emerging technologies such as wireless. As our industry, and Alerton in particular, continues to embrace this significant and positive development in building automation, we look forward to serving our customers with even better choices and higher levels of quality facility management.
As the leading BACnet manufacturer, Alerton is proud to be one of the founding members of BACnet International (previously BACnet Manufacturers Association™, or BMA). BACnet International is an organization of companies that design, market and install building automation products, and whose charter encourages the successful implementation of BACnet in building automation and controls. All member companies either currently offer or plan to offer BACnet-compliant products; each is committed to ensuring interoperability between their BACnet products. BACnet International works hand-in-hand with other BACnet groups whose charters limit their commercial activities. We feel that it is important Alerton play a pivotal role in this organization to promote BACnet in the industry.
The BACnet Standard and its companion testing standard, BSR/ASHRAE Standard 135.1-2003, "Method of Test for Conformance to BACnet," have been adopted by the International Standards Organization as ISO Standards 16484-5 and 16484-6. The testing standard is the basis for the conformance testing conducted by the BACnet Testing Labs (BTL), which was formed by BACnet International (see below) to perform compliance in interoperability testing of BACnet building automation products. Testing tools developed by the BTL are made available to members. Devices that pass this testing are awarded the BTL Mark, and are listed by the BTL and BACnet International.
